Global Talent Independent Program and Distinguished Talent Visa

The Australian government uses this program to find the best global talent with internationally recognised achievements. This program is a streamlined permanent resident visa application pathway.

Global Talent Independent Program (GTI) and Distinguished Talent Visa (subclass 858)

The Global Talent Independent Program, also known as the Global Talent visa Program, was introduced by the Department of Home Affairs in 2019. The Australian government uses this program to find the best global talent with internationally recognised achievements. This program is a streamlined permanent resident visa application pathway.

In the context of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the government believes the globally highly skilled professionals can create opportunities for Australians by transferring skills, promoting innovation, and creating jobs. There are 15,000 places available under the program, which has been tripled from 2019.

This is a great program for applicants who have an internationally recognized record of exceptional achievement in an eligible sector.

The GTI program is a simplified migration pathway. Applicants who have been accepted by this program will be directed to apply for the Subclass 858 Distinguished Talent Visa.

The GTI program has the following parts:

1. Expression of Interest. This EOI is used to let applicants demonstrate their talents.

2. Talent Visa Application. Applicants who are accepted can then apply for the permanent visa.

  • More Quota

There are 15,000 places available under the GTI program, it is tripled from 5,000 places in 2019. While, Skilled Independent (189 visa) and State/Territory Nominated (190 visa) has lost 60% of their quotas this year.

  • Higher processing priority and less processing time

The Australian government gives higher processing priority to this program. The average processing time for GTI program applicants is around 6 months. While 189 visa and 190 visa take more than 12 months.

  • Keep informed about your EOI status

You need to submit an EOI via the Global Talent Contact Form prior to a formal Talent visa application. The Department of Home Affairs will notify you whether your EOI is successful, so you don’t have to pay visa application fees for nothing.

  • Graduates are eligible for the GTI program

Recent bachelor honours, Master or PhD degree graduates who finished their studies in the last three years can also apply under the GTI program. The requirements for those graduates are slightly lower compared with other applicants. Considering the 189 visa pathway is so hard to go through, this GTI program can be a lifesaver.

  • No points test

GTI program is not subject to point test, applicants are not required to create EOI on the skill select system. Applicants have no need to achieve crazy high points to be selected.

  • No Skill Assessment

GTI program is not subject to any specific occupation list, applicants are not required to pass skill assessment.

  • Higher visa grant rate

The subclass 858 visa has 99.5% grant rate, this is significantly higher than other visa options.
